Welcome to the development blog for the drumming website bigdrumthump (BDT). This blog will document all of our mistakes (already more than we want to remember) as well as a few of our successes (we’re still waiting to have a big one) as we publish BDT. We’ll also use this area as a soapbox for various technological tangents, particularly our Apple fanboyism.
BDT launched in February 2008 under the WordPress platform. The design of the site uses a modified version of Brian Gardner‘s Revolution theme. Though it was our designer’s first time using CSS and blogging software, the process was very smooth. We’re still running an older version of WordPress on the main BDT site, but we’ll be upgrading to 2.5 once we get the courage. The blogging process has been going so swimmingly that we’re afraid we’ll end up breaking something. So if it ain’t broke….
The prelaunch version of BDT had a static homepage, soon replaced with the dynamic page you’ll find on the site now. The current logo (a grunged-up fist holding a drumstick) was added in March. Our Flickr page was created on April 14, 2008, and we added a Twitter feed on May 4, 2008. A few days later, we uploaded the plugin for Mike Cherim’s free PHP contact form.
We have more plans for improving the site than there are nanoseconds in a day, and with a little luck and a lot of coffee we’ll get to getting them up and running soon. Until then, if you have any questions about or recommendations for BDT, please contact us at the following address: sfl@bigdrumthump.com
